Why do the best PMS providers focus on long-term wealth creation strategies?

Recently, APMI organized its panel discussion on family offices and PMS industry trends, and five participants from different family office groups were invited. Their discussion was mainly focused on the advantages of PMSes for family offices and the best PMS provider in India. Such offices are in constant search of customized investment services that will meet their needs; these may include thematic or sectored investments, which are hard to find with ready-made products such as mutual funds.

Customized investment strategies

The best suits your various needs, whether these are financial requirements, capacity to risk, or your liking. For instance, if you target capital preservation with moderate appreciation, the portfolio manager may set his sights on investing in blue-chip stocks and government bonds. On the other hand, if you are value-oriented and willing to take high risk, then the plan could include small-cap and emerging markets. Many of them not only increase potential returns but also decrease risk because they have little to no correlation with equities.

Fee structure for PMS

It does not set any fee scale that portfolio managers can use to charge their clients. However, according to the existing regulations, it is possible to put forward fees related to the agreement between a portfolio manager and a client on creating/reviewing the portfolio. The cost may also be fixed based on the returns generated and or a combination of both. However, the portfolio managers are required to get prior express written consent from clients in as much as they are charging fees for each activity they either directly or indirectly undertake, including outsourced services.

Long-term wealth creation

While PMS offers customized portfolios and early access to deals, they are not necessary per se in creating long-term wealth. In fact, no data has emerged to prove that an investment in PMS is vital for superior wealth creation, as many mutual funds have shown to perform either at par or even better than PMS. However, wealth creation has much to do with disciplined investing consistently within your financial goals rather than searching for some exclusive investment product.

Understanding Smallcases investment

It is centered on a specific type of investment theme, strategy, or sector. Where other mutual funds or ETFs are managed by fund managers or indices tracked in the markets, small cases are built by SEBI-registered investment advisors RIAs who are financial experts and investment managers on Smallcase. These managers have years of experience and market insights that ensure every smallcase investment is based on current market trends and opportunities. It is an effective and easy way for investors to diversify portfolios while ensuring they fulfill their financial goals.

Flexibility and control

Investors can choose any number of Smallcases, modify them according to their needs, or change their investments whenever the market or their personal financial objectives change. Thus, there is no control in the sense attributed to traditional mutual funds. It is straightforward to sell a segment of the stocks without the obligation to sell the entire portfolio. This may prove helpful when monies are urgently required for some emergency or when the investor has the urge to grab new opportunities.
